Frequently asked

Estimates and getting on the schedule

Do you charge to come look at my project?

No. Quality Excavating offers free estimates. We would rather see the property and understand what you want done than give you a number over the phone that does not hold up once we are on site.

What is the best way to get an estimate started?

Call or text the office at (865) 489-7825, or fill out the contact form on this website. Sara, our office manager, handles incoming requests and will get the details from you and help set up a time for the estimate.

What should I have ready when I reach out?

It helps to know where the property is, what you are trying to accomplish, and roughly how much ground is involved. If you are a builder or developer, any site plans or drawings you already have are useful. Photos of the site are helpful too, but they are not required to get started.

Who owns the company, and who will I be working with?

Quality Excavating is owned by Larry Kennedy, and you will see Larry and his crew on the job. Sara runs the office and is your main point of contact for questions, scheduling and estimates. For urgent matters, call the office at (865) 489-7825.

Where are you based?

How far will you travel for a job?

Services and types of projects

What kind of work does Quality Excavating do?

Our core work is excavating, grading and site prep, including dozer work and building house pads ready for construction. We also cut in roads and driveways, clear land by removing trees and stumps, install drainage solutions like ditches and pipe, handle demolition and material removal, haul, and deliver gravel and fill dirt by dump truck.

Do you only work for homeowners, or do you take on builder and developer projects too?

We do both. A lot of our work has been residential, and we are glad to keep helping homeowners. We also work with builders and land developers and welcome larger site prep projects, such as clearing and grading lots, cutting in access roads, and preparing pads for new construction.

Can one company handle my site from raw land to a ready pad?

In many cases, yes. Because our services include land clearing, excavating, grading, house pads, roads and driveways, drainage, hauling and material delivery, we can often take a site through several stages of prep without you having to line up a separate contractor for each step. We will talk through the full scope with you during the estimate.

Do you offer forestry mulching?

No. This is a common point of confusion, so we want to be clear about it. Our land clearing means removing and uprooting trees and stumps so the land is ready for building or easier to access. We do not grind trees down into mulch and leave it on the ground. If mulching is what you are looking for, we are not the right fit, but if you need land truly cleared for construction, that is exactly what we do.

Will you haul off what you remove from my property?

Hauling and material removal are part of what we offer, so in most cases we can take care of it. What needs to go and where it goes depends on the project, so we will cover that when we look at your site.

Can I just order gravel or fill dirt without other work?

Yes. Gravel and fill dirt delivery by dump truck is one of our services. Let us know what the material is for and where it needs to go, and we will help you figure out the next step.

Do you pave driveways?

Paving is not one of our services. We cut in and prepare roads and driveways, and when a customer needs paving afterward, we can refer you to a paving company we work with.

Frequently asked

Seasonal work

Do you work in the winter?

Our schedule follows the weather like any dirt work does. When it snows, we shift over to snow plowing and salting roads. For excavation and site work during colder months, reach out and we will talk through timing for your specific project.

Do you offer snow plowing and salting?

Yes. When snow hits, we provide snow plowing and road salting. Call or text us if you need help clearing roads or access areas.
